A man in his 30s is dead and another is in hospital after an altercation in Saint-Chrysostome, Que., about an hour away from Montreal in the Châteauguay Valley.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) says it received a call at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday about the incident.
“There was an altercation involving two individuals,” explained Ève Brochu-Joubert, a spokesperson with the SQ. “One of them was seriously injured and transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.”
It has been deemed a homicide.
The suspect, a man in his 30s, then fled the scene and barricaded himself in a residence in Ormstown, not too far away.
“The intervention of several officers was required,” said Brochu-Joubert.
He was arrested at 8 a.m. Thursday and taken to hospital.
His life is not considered to be in danger, and investigators are expecting to speak with him when his condition stabilizes.
The force would not confirm what kind of relationship the two had, nor if there were any other people involved in the incident.
Quebec provincial police remain onsite to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
