A women’s accessories wholesaler in Montreal’s garment district was the target of an alleged arson attack early Wednesday morning.

Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 1:30 a.m. about an alarm going off at the business on Louvain Street near l’Esplanade Boulevard.

“When police arrived on the scene, the Montreal fire department was already bringing the fire under control,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police. “According to a witness, a suspect would have been seen breaking a window, and then the suspect would have fled the scene on foot.”

Damage to the building is considered minor.

“An incendiary object was found at the scene,” added Chèvrefils.

There were no reported injuries, as the business was closed at the time, and there have been no arrests.

The file has been transferred to the Montreal police arson squad.
