Montreal police investigating gunfire, suspected arson at 2 businesses

Montreal police say they are investigating after two businesses were hit with gunfire and suspected arson overnight Wednesday.

Police received a 911 call at around 2:40 a.m. and responded to a fire at the Berchicci grocery store on Couture Boulevard.

The fire was quickly brought under control.

Prior to the intervention, the fire department noticed that a window had been broken. No injuries were reported.

The case has been handed over to the Montreal police arson squad to investigate.

In a post on Instagram, the business said it will be closed for the next few days “due to an unexpected incident.”

Gunfire at pastry shop in Little Italy

At around 6 a.m., police got a 911 call about shots fired at a business in Little Italy.

When officers arrived, they found bullet holes in the windows of the Pasticceria Alati-Caserta.

No injuries were reported. The case remains under investigation.
