More Quebec homes to lose door-to-door Canada Post delivery in favour of community mailboxes

Quebecers in three municipalities will soon lose their door-to-door mail service by Canada Post, the federal Crown corporation announced on Thursday.

The cities affected are part of a four-million address shift to community mailboxes, a project expected to take five years.

“Most of the addresses selected for this phase of conversion are adjacent to areas that already receive delivery to community mailboxes,” Canada Post explains.

The first phase of the project, expected for late 2026 to early 2027, will include these Quebec addresses:

• La Prairie and Candiac: Postcodes beginning with J5R (6,000 addresses)
• Sept-Îles: Postcodes beginning with G4R and G4S (7,000 addresses)

“Canada Post will engage with communities as it identifies suitable locations for community mailbox sites,” the corporation adds. “It is also notifying residents of the upcoming change to their mail delivery, and will keep them, businesses, bargaining agents and employees informed every step of the way.”

Canada Post points out that three-quarters of all Canadian addresses already receive their mail through some form of centralized delivery.

Additional addresses expected to make the switch to the community mailbox model are slated to be announced as the project continues.
