Quebec provincial police break up drug, firearm trafficking operation

Quebec provincial police are working to break up a drug and firearm trafficking operation in Sorel-Tracy, about an hour away from Montreal.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) says that eight arrests are expected during the operation, following an investigation that started in July 2024 after the force received a tip from the public.

“In November 2024, firearms and narcotics were seized during the search phase,” the SQ notes.

It adds that about 30 police officers are involved in Wednesday’s procedure.

The operation is part of the SQ’s CENTAURE strategy, which aims to fight organized crime in the province.
