Three families displaced after major fire in Plateau-Mont-Royal

A major fire in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough displaced three families on Tuesday night.

Three families were forced from their homes Tuesday night after a three-alarm fire broke out in a triplex in Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.

Around 110 firefighters were dispatched around 7:20 p.m. to the building on Clarke Street near Saint-Laurent Boulevard.

The Montreal fire department says the fire started in a mattress on the third floor.

Hydro-Quebec cut power to several homes in the area, but the service was later restored.

Section chief Alain Laflamme said the families are being assisted by the Red Cross and will not be able to return to their homes for at least a couple of weeks.

The fire was extinguished at around 9:30 p.m.
