A vehicle that was set on fire in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough early Wednesday morning caused damage to a nearby property.
Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 2 a.m. about the flames in the driveway of a home on Jean-Tavernier Street near Pierre-Gaulin Street.
“When the fire department arrived onsite, they were able to confine the fire on the vehicle rapidly,” said Jean-Pierre Brabant, a spokesperson with Montreal police. “Incendiary elements were found on the scene.”
He adds residents were evacuated from a nearby home, but have since been allowed to return.
The property suffered minor damage due to the fire, and there were no reported injuries.
The vehicle has been towed for expert analysis and the file has been transferred to the Montreal police arson squad.
