A worker was killed on the job at the Provigo distribution centre in Boucherville, on Montreal’s South Shore.

The Quebec workplace safety board (CNESST) said that an accident occurred on Tremblay Road on Thursday.

On Friday, the Quebec coroner’s office identified the worker as Marc Courchesne, 53, from Longueuil.

An investigation by the CNESSST is underway.

“According to the initial information we have, the victim was trapped between a forklift and an equipment used to change the forklift batteries,” spokesperson Vincent Audy-Lacroix told CTV News.

Longueuil police (SPAL) told CTV News that there was no criminal element involved and they are not involved in the case.

CNESST inspectors, however, have begun collecting data at the scene.

Quebec coroner Donald Nicole has also opened an investigation to determine the causes and circumstances surrounding the death.
