Quebec dubbing of ‘The Simpsons’ to resume following agreement between Disney, Bell

Quebecers watching the French-language version of popular show The Simpsons won’t be forced to watch new seasons dubbed in French from France.

Bell Media confirmed on Monday that it has reached an agreement with Disney Entertainment to continue dubbing the series in Quebec, as reported by Le Soleil last week.

New episodes are set to air on Noovo, which has been playing reruns of previous seasons for several years, with catch-up viewing on the Crave streaming platform.

In a press release, Bell Media noted that the agreement “ensures that Quebec audiences will continue to hear the familiar Quebec accents and expressions of the characters they’ve loved for years.”

The Quebec dubbing of The Simpsons was suspended last August when Télétoon, a children’s channel owned by Corus Entertainment, chose not to renew the series’ broadcast rights, a decision that was widely criticized.

The Quebec version of The Simpsons is dubbed by local actors and adapted with cultural references specific to the province, making it quite different from the version produced in France.

The 36th season, whose dubbing was interrupted last year, is set to air next fall on Noovo.

Quebec-dubbed seasons 1 through 35 of The Simpsons are available on the Disney+ platform, which also houses the original English version.
