A woman in her 50s died on Tuesday evening after being found seriously injured near the roadside in Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs in Quebec’s Capitale-Nationale region. According to Sûreté du Québec (SQ) Spokesperson Frédéric Deshaies, emergency services received an alert shortly before 7 p.m. from an “electronic device being carried by a person possibly in distress” near Principale Street. Police officers found the victim near the road. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead. “At this stage, the cause and circumstances surrounding this incident remain unknown,” said Deshaies. “It is still too early to determine what may have happened.” Major crime investigators from the SQ have been tasked with establishing what happened. A crime scene reconstructionist has been dispatched, and traffic is being redirected for the investigation. This report by The Canadian Press was first published in French on Oct. 14, 2026.
