Quebec premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and outgoing Premier Christine Fréchette are set to meet on Tuesday morning as part of the government handover process. The meeting is expected to begin at 11 a.m. in Quebec City, with St-Pierre Plamondon and Fréchette making statements to the press at 11:35 a.m. READ MORE: This comes a few days before the Parti Québécois (PQ) MNAs are set to be sworn in at the National Assembly on Thursday. The new cabinet should be presented on Oct. 21. Eight days ago, St-Pierre Plamondon’s party was given a mandate to form a minority government with 59 seats. With 40 MNAs, the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) is the official opposition. The remaining seats in the National Assembly shall be occupied by 19 MNAs from the Conservative Party (PCQ) and nine elected representatives from Québec solidaire. The Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), which had been in government since 2018, failed to win any seats. On election night, Fréchette said she took “full responsibility” for her party’s stunning defeat. The next day, she announced her resignation as CAQ leader. During his first 100 days in office, St-Pierre Plamondon says he hopes, amongst other things, to allocate a special budget for homelessness. He says his priorities also include exempting second-hand goods from the Quebec tax (QST), reducing the price of petrol by seven cents per litre, holding a national consultation on education and setting up a secretariat on regulatory relief.
