Alleged speeding driver stopped on Hwy. 69 with contraband tobacco

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with speeding and possessing unmarked cigarettes following a traffic stop on Highway 69 in Magnetawan First Nation.

Officers initiated the stop at about 7:55 a.m. on March 14.

“The vehicle was travelling at a speed of 124 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone,” OPP said in a news release.

During the stop, authorities discovered and seized approximately 50,000 unmarked cigarettes from the vehicle.

As a result of the incident, a 69-year-old individual from Thessalon, faces charges of speeding, purchasing unmarked cigarettes for sale and possessing unmarked cigarettes.

The accused was released on a summons to appear in court in Parry Sound on July 15.
