A 33-year-old from Mattawa has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run April 3 in which a speeding ATV hit a parked vehicle.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to the incident around 6:45 p.m. in a parking lot on Turcotte Park Road in Mattawa.

“The investigation revealed that an ATV was travelling at a high rate of speed, lost control and collided with the driver’s side of the vehicle,” the OPP said in a news release Friday.

“The ATV driver was ejected but got back on the vehicle and fled the scene without providing any information.”

Police were able to identify the driver and the ATV and located the accused in the case April 9 on John Street in Mattawa.

“When police attempted to make the arrest, the individual fled on foot,” the OPP said.

“After a brief foot pursuit, the accused was taken into custody.”

Charges include failing to remain at the scene of an accident, obstructing police, careless driving and driving an off-road vehicle without insurance.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 6 in North Bay.
