Bad weather closes Highway 101 between Wawa and Chapleau

The weather is getting bad in parts of the northeast. As a result, provincial police shut down part of Highway 144–there is also a closure on Highway 101.

Severe winter weather conditions have closed Highway 101 at the Highway 17 intersection in Wawa.

The Ministry of Transportation’s Ontario 511 Traveller Information Services said in a social media post that the road closed Thursday afternoon.

“All lanes closed,” the post said.

“Weather conditions on Hwy. 101 (in) both directions between Hwy. 17/101 (in) Wawa and S JCT (the south junction of) Hwy. 129 (in) Chapleau.”

Ontario Provincial Police advise motorists to avoid any unnecessary travel as driving conditions are deteriorating.
