A 59-year-old driver from Squamish, B.C., faces a stunt driving charge after Ontario Provincial Police stopped their vehicle for allegedly travelling more than double the posted speed limit in northern Ontario.

On April 14 at about 12:30 p.m., OPP pulled over the driver on Highway 11 in Moonbeam for clocking 116 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Under Ontario’s stunt driving laws, the accused received an immediate 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.

The driver is scheduled to appear in traffic court at a later date.

In a social media post, OPP reminded motorists to “drive safe,” with Const. Kyler Brouwer adding, “Slow down and drive responsibly – your safety and the safety of others depends on it.”
