Bon Soo 2024 to include more indoor events

Bon Soo 2024 to include more indoor events Organizers have been planning more events that are not weather dependent for this year's Bon Soo. Mike McDonald has the latest.

Organizers of Sault Ste. Marie's annual winter carnival are on the hunt for volunteers as Bon Soo 2024 quickly approaches. The popular event usually features a number of outdoor activities for all to enjoy. However, not being able to count on winter weather has prompted a shift in that planning.

"The board, about 24 months ago, started working on plans in diversifying the programming," said Josh Ingram with the city's tourism department.

"We actually are in a better spot than we have been in a long time for programming that isn't weather dependent."

One big change this year is the addition of a comic con style event – appropriately titled ‘Bon Con.’

"We're going to be having a Mario Kart tournament with ‘Svenny McG,’ a YouTube personality," said Ingram.

"And Vintage Games N' Junque are working with us to have a collector con."

Michael Turcotte, the owner of Vintage Games N' Junque told CTV News that he thinks the change is exciting.

“It's another thing for people to do and get together in Sault Ste. Marie, like NerdCon and Collector Con,” he said.

“If we can bring any groups of people together, it's a good thing."

Events making a return this year include the Polar Rush Urban Obstacle Course and the Polar Plunge.

Brett Kissel will headline the Bon Soo concert this year.
