“A witness met officers at the location and advised he could hear a dog barking and whining from an area under the dock,” police said in a news release.

“Officers located the dog but were unable to reach it due to the ice conditions on the lake. The North Bay Fire and Emergency Services were called to assist, and firefighters were able to rescue the dog with the use of a long pole attached to a dog collaring pole.”

The dog appeared to be in good health and was then taken to the Humane Society by a North Bay police officer.
