Fatal crash on Highway 101 in northern Ontario leaves one dead

A 45-year-old from Iroquois Falls was killed when two commercial motor vehicles collided Thursday west of Matheson.

A crash between two commercial vehicles on Highway 101 in northern Ontario has led to the death of a 45-year-old Thursday.

The collision happened around 1 p.m. March at Lynx Road in Taylor Township, west of Matheson, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Friday.

“One person, 45 years old, of Iroquois Falls, has died and the driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries,” OPP said.

The driver who died was male, acting Sgt. Michelle Simard confirmed in an email to CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca

“The investigation is on-going with the assistance of the OPP traffic incident management enforcement (T.I.M.E) team,” OPP said.

The road has reopened after being closed between Highway 577 and Highway 11 for about 14 hours.

It reopened just after 3:30 a.m. Friday.

No word on the cause of the crash or if any charges are pending.
