The Doug Ford government is cutting a planned increase to social services funding in Ontario from 3% to 1.5%.

Social Services Minister Lisa McLeod says she will be overhauling and repairing the system in the next 100 days.

We have reaction to the budget cut back on Wednesday from North Bay.

While local agencies say there's still plenty of need, the impact can't be measured just yet.

Mark King is the chair of the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board. He says the government's aim to get people off of assistance and into the workforce aligns with local objectives.

"It's designed to uh help people that uh need help over a short period of time. You know the fact that they're on it for five years or more just isn't an option any longer." said King.

Dennis Chippa is the Executive Director of The Gathering Place in North Bay, which provides a hot meal to people in need.

"We've been seeing newer faces, younger faces. So, we are seeing a lot of kids coming in, so they're mid to late teens. We are seeing a lot of families coming in, so we already know there's a lot of people in this community that are struggling." said Chippa.

The Ontario Progressive Conservatives are also ending a pilot project, started by the Wynne Liberals, which offered people in four select areas of the province a basic living income of $17,000 a year.

It was a project that had a budget of $50-million, and the PC's now say it's too costly.
