Impaired driving, other charges laid after Hwy 11 crash

More people are driving impaired by edibles Police and the CAA are reporting that more people are choosing to get behind the wheel impaired by edibles.

A northern Ontario driver was arrested after being involved in a motor vehicle crash on Highway 11 late last month.

On March 28 just before 2 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Temagami.

“Through investigation, police determined that one of the drivers was impaired by drug(s),” said police in a news release.

“The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for an assessment by an OPP drug recognition expert.”

Officers searched the driver’s vehicle and found “drug paraphernalia” and brass knuckles.

As a result of the investigation, the 26-year-old man from Temagami has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle, unauthorized possession of a weapon and mischief. In addition to the charges, the accused’s driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the court on April 23.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

“Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911,” said police.
