More details are being released about the Kraft Hockeyville celebrations to take place in northern Ontario next month after Elliot Lake, Ont. beat out several other cities in March and won the title.
The celebrations will kick off in Elliot on Sept. 27 at Collins Hall at 3 p.m.

“There will be a charity BBQ, live bands and entertainment, face painting, ball hockey, a mascot dance-off and a few other surprises are in the works,” the City of Elliot Lake said in a news release on Friday.
“The community celebration is free and open to the public.”
All proceeds from the BBQ and sale of Kraft Hockeyville merchandise sales will go to the Centennial Arena fund.
As part of their Hockeyville win, Elliot Lake received $250,000 to help repair the community’s Centennial Arena which was closed in 2023 because of safety concerns.

Since its closure city council has learned that repairs to the facility will cost upwards of $4.3 million and the city along with former and current residents has been fundraising to offset some of those costs.

Additionally, the Kraft Hockeyville designation gave them the right to host an NHL pre-season game this fall. Unfortunately, with Elliot Lake’s arena still closed for repairs, Sudbury, Ont., has been selected to host the game between the Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, Sept. 29.
“The schedule of events for the day (Sunday) are still being confirmed, but a ticket distribution strategy for the team practices and the game will be explained in a detailed plan as soon as possible,” said Elliot Lake officials.
“Tickets will be distributed in a fair manner at the discretion of the Elliot Lake Local Organizing Committee.”
