Man wanted for two shootings in Sudbury arrested with $45K in illegal drugs

Published:

A Toronto man wanted for two shootings in Sudbury earlier this year was arrested Wednesday with a loaded gun and $45K in illegal drugs.

On Wednesday, Greater Sudbury police arrested the prime suspect in two shooting cases, one from last month and the other dating to January.

When he was found, the 28-year-old Toronto man was hiding in the back seat of a vehicle. Inside, police found $45,400 in drugs, including cocaine, meth and fentanyl, and a loaded handgun.

The suspect was wanted in connection with a shooting March 25 that left one person with serious injuries in the area of Lasalle Boulevard and Notre Dame Avenue.

And the same person is believed responsible for a Jan. 22 shooting in the Flour Mill. No one was injured in that incident.

He was first pulled over by the Ontario Provincial Police around 2:35 p.m. on April 21 while driving on Highway 69 in Burwash.

“While police were conducting an investigation with the driver, who had provided false documents, the vehicle fled north towards Sudbury,” the OPP said in a news release.

The 28-year-old man was finally arrested Wednesday when Greater Sudbury police identified a vehicle “believed to be occupied by an individual wanted on multiple outstanding arrest warrants.”

“Just before 7:30 p.m., members of the emergency response unit conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Edgehill Drive and located the individual hiding in the back seat,” police said in a news release Thursday.

A search uncovered the loaded handgun with an extended magazine, 264 grams of cocaine, 750 grams of meth, 36 grams of fentanyl, 89 Oxycocet tablets and $2,200 in cash.

The suspect, also known as ‘Ghost,’ has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the March 25 shooting. A second attempted murder charge was laid for the Jan. 22 shooting on Bond Street.

He also faces several drug trafficking and weapons charges, one charge of possession of property obtained by crime and three counts of breaching release orders.

In addition to charges by Sudbury police, the OPP have charged him with several offences, including impersonation, fleeing police and dangerous driving.

He was scheduled to attend a hearing in bail court on Thursday in Sudbury.
