Manitoulin Island drug bust leads to 4 arrests, drugs, weapon charges

A Sudbury man and three residents of Wikwemikong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island have been charged with numerous drug and weapon-related offences following a joint investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police, Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service and United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on April 17, police executed a search warrant at a home on Kaboni Road in Wikwemikong.

“Police arrested four people at the residence and located over 35 grams of suspected fentanyl, over 3 grams of suspected cocaine, and over 3 grams of suspected crack cocaine,” said police in a news release.

Police also located firearms and ammo at the residence along with $12,000 in cash.

As a result, a 39-year-old Sudbury man along with a 26-year-old, a 29-year-old and a 41-year-old from Wiikwemkoong each face three drug trafficking charges and four weapons offences – including unauthorized possession of a weapon and possession of a prohibited device or ammunition.

The Sudbury man also faces 10 additional charges for possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

The Sudbury man and the 41-year-old resident of Manitoulin Island were both held pending a bail hearing.

The other two accused were released and are scheduled to appear in court on May 28.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.
