MNR asks for public assistance to solve moose poaching incident

Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers are seeking the public’s help in identifying who is responsible for killing and abandoning a calf moose, approximately 88 km north of Thunder Bay on Highway 527.

The calf was discovered Oct. 23. Conservation officers were notified by a member of the public about a shot and abandoned calf moose in a forestry cut, on the north side of the Camp 45 Road at approximately Km 2.

“The calf moose is believed to have been killed between Oct. 21-22, found approximately 100 metres into the cut in a skidder rut and only approximately 100 metres from where another moose had been killed and retrieved,” the MNR said in a news release.

“Conservation officers are looking for any dash cam footage from the area between Oct. 18 to Oct. 23 or any other information that may assist officers in their investigation.”

“This is a serious offence, and the ministry is committed to holding those responsible accountable,” the MNR added.
