Athletes playing varsity sports at Cambrian College are sporting a new look and a new name.

The changes the central focus during a pep rally at the post-secondary school in Sudbury on Monday.

All varsity volleyball, soccer, badminton and cross-country teams will now be known as the Cambrian Shield, replacing the previous name of Cambrian Golden Shield.

The uniforms are now in the school’s brand colours of gold and burgundy -- and show off the college’s new logo that was unveiled earlier this year.

The varsity re-brand is just in time for the new sporting season.

"It’s awesome to be part of the rebranding," said volleyball player Taylor Viallant.

"They did a really good job on all of our merchandise and our logo. This has been amazing, like this whole recognizing and congratulating us for all of this. So super excited to be able to wear it for the first time."

'This is all part of a bigger rebrand for Cambrian and our varsity athletes are part of what we do," said the college's Alison De Luisa.

"So today was really giving them the time to show off their new uniforms with the Cambrian brand and being part of Cambrian and making such a difference for our school community."

While the school is replacing its previous logo of a dragon’s head crest, officials said Burnie the Dragon will remain the official mascot for Cambrian and its teams.
