Incumbent Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli was taken to hospital Friday morning as a precautionary measure after the vehicle he was in was struck by a transport truck.
“He was stopped at a traffic light on the bypass and hit from behind by a tractor-trailer,” a member of his campaign team told Eric Taschner of CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca.
“Car pushed through the intersection. He is OK. They are checking him out as a precaution.”
The collision took place around 9:15 a.m. on Highway 11 at O’Brien Street.
“Vic Fedeli did not sustain any serious injuries following a collision this morning,” a news release from his team said later Friday.
“Out of an abundance of caution, he was brought to the hospital to get checked out. He’s fine, in great spirits, and expects to be released shortly.”
The 35-year-old transport driver, from Brampton, was charged with following too closely in a commercial motor vehicle, an $85 ticket, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.
“There were no reported injuries to any individuals in the collision,” OPP said.
Fedeli, 68, is running for re-election in the Feb. 27 vote. He has represented Nipissing since 2011.
He was serving as Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade in Doug Ford’s cabinet when the vote was called.
