A 46-year-old northern Ontario man is facing numerous charges including two counts of arson after a fire Wednesday afternoon west of Temiskaming Shores.

Elk Lake Fire Department and officers with the Temiskaming detachment were called to a home on Mountain Chute Road in Barber Township, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Thursday.

A local man was arrested and charged with arson with disregard for human life and damage to property.

As part of an unrelated ongoing investigation, he was also charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition and mischief by way of obstructing, interrupting or interfering with a person in the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property.

He was released and his next scheduled court appearance is in Haileybury on May 13.
