Northern Ont. motorist faces drug, firearm charges after traffic stop

A traffic stop has led to drug and firearm charges for a northern Ontario man.

On Feb. 6 at about 1 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers conducted a traffic stop on Drayton Road in Sioux Lookout, Ont., said police in a news release.

“The driver was placed under arrest and during a search incident to arrest, officers located suspected cocaine and suspected crack cocaine on the individual,” OPP said.

“Police further located a firearm and ammunition inside of the vehicle.”

As a result of the incident, the driver, a 32-year-old man from Hudson, Ont., was charged with drug possession, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm and occupying a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 4.
