Northern Ont. suspect charged with two counts of arson with disregard for human life

A 37-year-old woman in Kirkland Lake has been charged with two counts of arson with disregard for human life in connection with two fires set March 2.

A 37-year-old woman from Kirkland Lake who was already on probation has been charged in connection with two fires that were set early in March.

Firefighters and police responded March 2 to fires on Government Road East and to a second fire on McKelvie Avenue in Kirkland Lake.

Ontario Provincial Police investigated and laid charges in the case April 17.

The woman is charged with two counts each of arson with disregard for human life and arson damaging property. She is also charged with four counts of failing to comply with probation.

Police declined to say why she was on probation.

She attended a bail hearing but remains in custody ahead of a court hearing May 15 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake.
