Northern Ont. woman charged with impaired driving, drug trafficking

More people are driving impaired by edibles Police and the CAA are reporting that more people are choosing to get behind the wheel impaired by edibles.

A 30-year-old Kapuskasing woman is charged with several offences after a local traffic stop on Tuesday morning, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police conducted the stop on Byng Avenue just after 9 a.m.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and was found to have "been consuming an intoxicating substance," said police in a news release.

“And transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.”

During their investigation, officers seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and cannabis.

As a result, the accused was charged with impaired operation, driving with cannabis readily available, drug trafficking, failing to surrender a licence and failing to surrender an insurance card.

The accused was released from custody but is now under a 90-day driver's license suspension and has had her vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 17.

None of the accusations has been proven in court.
