Northern Ont. woman charged with impaired driving, weapons offences, drug trafficking

Some not getting the message on impaired driving Since the start of the Festive RIDE campaign in mid-November provincial police in our region have charged 87 people with impaired driving.

A 26-year-old Kapuskasing woman is charged with several offences after a local traffic stop on Saturday morning, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police conducted the stop on a vehicle idling in a parking lot on Riverside Drive just before 9 a.m.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and was found to have "been consuming an intoxicating substance," said police in a news release.

“And transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.”

During their investigation, officers seized a switchblade knife and drugs suspected to be cocaine.

As a result, the accused was charged with impaired operation, drug trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited weapon and obstructing a peace officer.

The accused was released from custody but is now under a 90-day driver's license suspension and has had her vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on July 15.

None of the accusations has been proven in court.
