The Ontario Chamber of Commerce has launched a four-point plan outlining its economic priorities for the 2025 federal election.
“Ontario is an electoral battleground for a reason: it’s the heart of Canada’s economy and essential to our national prosperity,” said chamber president and CEO Daniel Tisch.
“With the right federal policies, we can unlock trade, attract investment, grow sustainably and develop the workforce of the future. This is a hinge moment for Canada’s economy – and we challenge our leaders to make clear commitments to seize it.”
The Ontario chamber is calling on all parties and candidates to work with the provinces to champion policies that drive national growth under four key pillars: a competitive business and trade environment; qualified people, diverse talent; healthy and sustainable communities; and, growth-enabling infrastructure.
In Sudbury, the local chamber said its priorities align with its provincial counterpart.
Trade war, labour shortages
“We’re really interested in hearing about our candidates’ views and plans on some really important issues on the minds of our members,” said Marie Litalien, president and CEO of the Sudbury chamber.
Those issues include labour shortages, the trade war with the U.S. and modernizing legislation to support Canadian businesses.
Litalien said it’s important the federal government understands that the business community in the North is very well informed on the issues that affect them.
“It’ll be important to consult and to create clear action plans to affect change and help our businesses grow and expand and, ultimately, create jobs for the people in our community, both locally, provincially and federally,” she said.
Litalien said the chamber is planning to host all-candidate events ahead of the April 28 election.
They hope to finalize the dates and times for the events in the coming days.
