Police arrest 4, seize $64K in drugs, firearms on Manitoulin Island

Two people face drug charges in Sudbury A Sudbury woman and southern Ontario man are facing charges after a drug raid at a Flour Mill home netted $271K in narcotics.

Two southern Ont. men, a 29-year-old from Wikwemikong and a 16-year-old, have been charged following a joint investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police, Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service and United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service.

Shortly before midnight Aug. 3, police executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act search warrant at a home on Genevieve Street in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island.

“A search of the residence led to the seizure of over 175 grams of suspected crack cocaine, over 90 grams of suspected fentanyl, and over 14 grams of suspected cocaine,” said police in news release Wednesday.

“The estimated street value of the drugs seized is over $64,000.”

A loaded handgun, ammunition and about $22,000 in cash was also seized in the search.

As a result, a 21-year-old and 38-year-old from Scarborough along with a 29-year-old from Wiikwemkoong and a 16-year-old are facing numerous charges including drug trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and having property obtained by crime.

The 16-year-old is also charged with failing to comply with a release order and was held in custody and will appear in court at a later day.

The 38-year-old was released from custody and is schedule to appear in court on Sept. 5.

The other two accused are being held and are scheduled to appear in court in Gore Bay on Wednesday.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

On the same day, two people were arrested at a Greater Sudbury home with more than $270,000 in narcotics.
