Police say aggressive driver in Thunder Bay construction zone was drunk

A 48-year-old man from Thunder Bay has been charged after police in the area received several 911 calls last week about an aggressive and possibly impaired driver.

Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release that the incident took place around 8:30 p.m. June 24 in a construction zone on Highway 61 south of the airport.

“Thunder Bay OPP officers located the vehicle and stopped it,” police said June 30.

“The driver showed obvious signs of impairment and was immediately arrested for impaired operation.”

He was charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. As a result, his driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and his car was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released for a court date of Aug. 19 in the Thunder Bay Ontario Court of Justice.

“The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways,” police said.

“Members of the public are urged to report impaired driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints of impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.”
