Police in Blind River say a victim of two assaults – including one with a bong – was himself wanted in connection with a Feb. 3 break-and-enter in the community.
He complained to police that he was assaulted around noon Feb. 17 on Hudson Street in the Town of Blind River.
“The investigation revealed that the complainant was walking eastbound on Hudson Street when they were chased by a blue pickup truck,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Tuesday.
Assaulted with bear mace
“The driver of the pickup truck exited the vehicle and a confrontation ensued, during which the complainant was sprayed with bear mace.”
He reported to police that the same man assaulted him a few weeks earlier while he was walking eastbound on Causley Street.
“The complainant was then assaulted with a bong and a can, sustaining injuries to the head and nose,” police said.
The assault suspect, 18, was arrested later on Feb. 17 while driving the same pickup truck. A search of the truck uncovered an air gun and a bolt action rifle.
Uttering threats
He was charged with numerous offences, including uttering death threats, assault with a weapon, driving while knowing there was a weapon in the vehicle, unauthorized possession of a weapon and two counts of driving while suspended.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on April 3.
“While investigating the above incident, police determined that the complainant was also wanted for a break and enter that occurred in early February 2025,” police said.
The Feb. 3 theft took place around 12:30 p.m. at a storage building on Lachore Street in Blind River.
“The suspect damaged the window of the front door and stole items, including a sweater and shoes,” police said.
“The stolen items were later posted on social media.”
The person who complained about the assault, also 18, was charged with theft under $5,000, break and enter and possession of property obtained by crime.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, also on April 3.
