A major police operation in Wiikwemkoong on Tuesday was sparked by a report of an armed person in the community.
But after a school was put on hold and secure and Ontario Provincial Police were called in to help, it turned out the weapons were a pellet gun and an air gun.
Four people – including two from southern Ontario – have been charged with drug possession, and one of them is facing a weapons charge.
The incident took place at a residence on North Corbiere Lane, where Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service executed a search warrant.
“As a precaution, the Pontiac School was placed in a hold and secure to ensure everyone’s safety,” police said in a news release.
“The warrant resulted in the seizure of a pellet gun, airsoft gun and a quantity of drugs.”
The suspects – two from Wiikwemkoong, a man age 36 and a woman age 40, and a man and a woman from Ajax, both 19 – are charged with drug possession. The 36-year-old man is also charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
All four suspects are scheduled to appear in court on June 25.
“Police are requesting anyone with information regarding this investigation to contact police at (705) 370-3141,” the release said.
