Sault man charged in weekend stabbing

Weekend stabbing in the Sault One person suffered serious injuries while another has been charged after a stabbing in Sault Ste. Marie over the weekend.

A 26-year-old man from Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon following a stabbing in the city over the weekend.

Around 8:20 p.m. on Jan. 4, a 911 caller reported a stabbing at a multi-unit residential building in the 400 block of Pim Street.

"An investigation revealed the accused, who is known to the victim, stabbed the victim multiple times while they were asleep," Sault police said in a news release.

"They then left the scene."

The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Police later located and arrested the suspect in the 700 block of Wellington Street West.

In addition to the assault charges the suspect is also charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused in the case was held pending a bail hearing.
