Sault man faces impaired, assault charges after resort altercation

A 23-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man faces multiple charges following a disturbance at a resort on Highway 129 in Wharncliffe, Ont., northeast of Thessalon, provincial police say.

Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to the incident around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday after reports of an altercation involving several people at the resort. Officers arrested an intoxicated individual after investigating.

The accused was charged with assault, mischief and failing to comply with a probation order along with two impaired driving offences – including operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80.

The man is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 5.

The OPP reiterated warnings against impaired driving, urging the public to report suspected incidents

“Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911,” police said in a news release.
