Sault woman thought she won $100 until friend told her she was missing some zeros

Tunis man Joseph Lafave won $171,000 in a Poker Lotto jackpot on Nov. 1 while in Sault Ste. Marie, Robin McDonald won $100,000 with Encore in a Nov. 18 draw.

Saying “yes” to Encore paid off for one Sault Ste. Marie woman last month.

Robin McDonald matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Nov. 18 Lotto Max draw to win $100,000.

Encore offers 22 ways to win and can be played in conjunction with most lottery draw games for an extra $1. There are two Encore draws every day.

McDonald, who works as a cook, said she discovered her win when she checked the ticket using the OLG app.

“At first, I thought it was a $100 prize,” the 61-year-old said, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

“I went over to my friend’s place and he double-checked my ticket on his phone (and) said, ‘You’d better add a couple more zeros to that number.’”

McDonald said she shared the news with a few friends and there were big smiles all around.

McDonald said she plans to put her windfall towards some bills and save for retirement – but she also plans to enjoy a “well-deserved” vacation somewhere warm.

The winning ticket was purchased at Queenstown I.D.A. Drug Mart on Queen Street East in Sault Ste. Marie, OLG confirmed.
