Second woman charged in Kirkland Lake armed robbery, third suspect at large

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 47-year-old man with aggravated assault following an incident Thursday morning that sent one person to hospital.

A second woman has been arrested in an armed robbery at a home in Kirkland Lake last month and a third suspect is still at large, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police said a 911 call received around 2 a.m. Jan. 4 stated three people had broken into an apartment on Station Road, assaulted four people inside and fled the scene.

“Victims sustained minor injuries and declined medical assistance,” OPP said in a news release.

The first suspect, a 36-year-old local woman, was arrested in late January.

In an update on Friday, OPP said the second suspect, a 32-year-old local woman, has also been arrested.

Like the first suspect, she is charged with robbery with a weapon, having a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breaking and entering a dwelling house to commit an indictable offence.

Under the Criminal Code, Robbery is defined as stealing and for the purpose of extorting whatever is stolen or to prevent or overcome resistance to the stealing using violence or threats of violence to a person.

The first suspect is also charged with failing to comply with a probation order.

“It is unclear the exact intentions, but the accused had been attempting to take funds from the victims,” OPP Const. Shelby Olson told CTV News in an email last month.

The 32-year-old is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 27.

“The OPP is continuing efforts to locate and arrest the other individual involved in this incident,” police said.

The first suspect was released following a bail hearing.
