A 41-year-old snow machine driver from Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation has been charged with several offences following an early morning incident April 9 near Espanola.
Ontario Provincial Police received a call around 2:30 a.m. April 9 about a suspicious person outside a residence on Lee Valley Road in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.
“Police arrived on scene and observed a motorized snow vehicle leaving the residence,” police said.
When police attempted to stop the snowmobile, the driver fled at a high rate of speed and ended up in a ditch. The driver ran away from the scene but was caught and taken into custody.

“There were no injuries reported,” the OPP said.
“Additionally, police located an amount of suspected Fentanyl with an estimated street value of $650.”
Charges include three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, two counts of obstructing police, dangerous driving, impaired driving, driving while having a suspended licence, fleeing police, two counts of impersonation, drug possession and failing to stop for police.
The accused remains in custody, police said Monday.
