In all, 16 restaurants and hospitality locations are taking part offering 16 different varieties of soup.

Mayor Paul Lefebvre will act as soup master and will also be part of the judging panel.

“There will be a lot of great soups to taste and it’s for a great cause,” Lefebvre said.

“I encourage everybody to come over. It’s going to be snow or no snow it’s still going to happen -- we are going to make it happen. So it’s a great event for a great cause in a great community.”

Takes place Jan. 31

Soup will be available from noon to 1:30 on Jan. 31. All proceeds will support the Elgin Street Mission, which is currently serving 250 dinners each night and 150 breakfasts to the vulnerable every morning.

“Again, we see the Sudbury community coming together to support our most vulnerable citizens,” said Amanda Labreche, Elgin Street Mission director and chaplain.

“It’s been a really cold winter, really cold at night. And so it’s nice to know as people come downtown and enjoy some soup. It’s important for our guests to see people supporting them and being part of their community.”

Organizers said Mission clients will receive complimentary soup and the general public can make a donation for a soup of their choice.

The event is being organized by Overtime Sports Bar and Grill and Jana Hospitality Consulting.
