Stunt driving arrest in Sudbury leads to drug trafficking charges for Toronto men

Two suspects from Toronto have been charged with drug trafficking after Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle on Highway 69 on Jan. 19.

Police said their traffic unit timed the vehicle driving 50 km/h more than the speed limit just after 11 p.m. in Sudbury.

“The driver was arrested for stunt driving and found to be a suspended driver,” police said in a news release Tuesday.

“Police seized cellular phones, credit cards, Canadian currency and drugs suspected to be cannabis and a brick of cocaine with an estimated street value of $100,000.”

A 24-year-old man from Toronto has been charged with cocaine trafficking, possession of an identity document, driving with cannabis readily available, stunt driving, driving while suspended and possession of card cards belonging to someone else.

The 18-year-old passenger, also a man from Toronto, was charged with cocaine trafficking.

Both accused were held for bail court, then remanded back into custody. They are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 22 in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 30-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
