A Sturgeon Falls resident is celebrating after a $1 investment turned into $100,000.

Gerald Beaucage of Sturgeon Falls matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in the exact order in the March 8 on Ontario 49 draw to win $100,000.

Beaucage, who is retired, has been playing the lottery with OLG weekly for nearly 40 years. He always makes sure to add Encore to his tickets. His dedication has paid off, as he is now thrilled to be celebrating a big win.

“I was on my way to Markham to attend the Little NHL tournament,” Beaucage said in a news release Friday.

“I was in my motel room when I remembered to check my ticket. I scanned it with the OLG app and was shocked when I saw ‘$100,000’ on my phone screen.”

Scanned ticket three times

He asked his daughter to scan the ticket on her phone just to be sure.

“We must have scanned it three times. We were both left surprised and in disbelief,” Beaucage said.

“My daughter is the only one who knows about my win. It was hard to be surrounded by my grandkids, their teammates, and their families and not tell anyone the incredible news … Being a winner feels like holding your first grandchild – it feels like a blessing.”

Plans for Gerald’s winnings include renovating his home and adding a new back porch.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Wolves Den/Canco Gas Bar on Beaucage Park Road in North Bay.
