Officers investigating an assault discovered a meth lab at home in the Chelmsford area of Greater Sudbury this week, police say.
Patrol officers started investigating Sunday after receiving a complaint about an assault, Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release Thursday morning.
Armed with information about a possible drug lab on the residential property, officers arrested a 56-year-old man when they “observed what they believed to be an active methamphetamine lab.”

The home was secured and the fire department’s HAZMAT team was brought in to protect public safety.
Once detectives received a search warrant on Wednesday, they found 210 grams of crystal meth worth about $20,000, a large sum of cash believed to be more than $100,000, two long guns, ammunition and a conducted energy weapon.

The suspect is charged with drug trafficking, producing meth, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a prohibited weapon and two counts of unauthorized possession of firearms.
He appeared in bail court Monday.
