Sudbury police investigating shooting in Notre Dame Ave. area

CTV News Northern Ontario journalist Chelsea Papineau reports from the scene of a shooting in Sudbury on Wednesday.

Greater Sudbury Police have a large police presence on Notre Dame Avenue and Bond Street early Wednesday evening.

Police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn told CTV News in an email that police responded around 2:15 p.m. to the area of Notre Dame Avenue at King Street and St. George Street.

“Information provided was that an individual inside a vehicle fired a gun at another vehicle in the area,” Dunn said.

“The vehicle then fled. The vehicle is described as a black truck. At this time, no injuries have been reported. Officers are currently looking for the involved vehicle. It is believed to be a targeted incident.”

A witness on the scene told CTV News Northern Ontario that he saw a pickup truck back up into a Honda Civic and push it right into a snowbank, then fled the scene.

“At the same time in the vicinity, I heard gunshots,” the witness, who asked not to be identified, told CTV News journalist Chelsea Papineau.

“I heard – we all heard – very well that there were gunshots.”
