What started as a small comic book convention a decade ago has grown into a two-day event, attracting thousands of fans from all over.
Northern Ontario Expo volunteers who run TimminsCon couldn't be happier with the help of its crew and the support of the community.
The event brought in more than 3,000 people on Saturday alone. Replicas of the Transformers Optimus Prime and BumbleBee were among the highlights.
“Because Optimus coming to Timmins was the first time he came so far up north, from Pennsylvania and it was the first time he ever presented to Canadian schools so having that really puts Timmins on the map,” said Francis Denis, TimminsCon organizer.
“That’s really what our goal is for people to know that northerners are geeky too.”

Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort, known for her role as Supergirl on the TV Series Smallville was another fun reason to attend, not to mention the numerous vendors which featured some locals, but most of them came from out of town.
“It’s nice to hear when we go to FanExpo, which is in Toronto in August, we just came back from TorontoCon in March, and people were saying ‘Oh, we’re already booked for your show’ or ‘Yeah, we heard about Timmins – we hear that you guys are great,’" said Denis.
For those who can't get enough of TimminsCon, a MiniCon will also take place in September.
Organizers said they hosted a similar ‘mini-event’ last fall which was successful and they'll continue to hold events as long as they're supported.
