The City of Timmins plans to create community destination parks in neighbourhoods across the community.
Officials said destination parks are designed to offer unique features and amenities.

This summer, Leo DelVillano Park in the south end will undergo a transformation. More tennis courts will be added, as well as pickleball courts. City clerk Steph Palmateer said this will allow the city to host tournaments.
Plans for a cricket pitch and larger washrooms with changerooms will also unfold in the park.
In the city’s east end at Porcupine’s Melview Park, attractions will be added for children who prefer a quieter playground, including ‘log jam’ style equipment.
“So rather than having basically the same park 15 times throughout the community, we’ll try and have different parks with different things for different people to enjoy,” Palmateer said.
“That way, you know, if you want to go to the splash pad, you can go to the splash pad. Or if you wanted to go do something else, we might have a different park that offers a different type of activity.”
The city’s recreation master plan includes 93 recommendations, of which 14 have been completed and more than 60 are ongoing.
