Traffic stop leads to multiple impaired driving charges

OPP Festive Ride campaign: 'Disappointing results' Ontario Provincial Police have released the results for their Festive Ride campaign and say they paint a sad picture about impaired driving.

A Wednesday night traffic stop in northern Ontario has resulted in an arrest and multiple charges -- including impaired driving.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers with the Almaguin Highlands Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Goreville Road in Laurier Township on Feb. 7 shortly before 10 p.m.

“Upon speaking with the driver, the officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages,” said police in a news release.

“The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.”

As a result of the stop, the driver, a 34-year-old man from North Bay is facing two impaired driving charges along with charges for driving with open liquor and driving without a valid permit.

Additionally, the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle stopped was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the court on Feb. 22.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

“If you suspect an impaired driver, don't hesitate ‘make the call’ and call 911,” said police.
