Two Toronto fraud suspects accused of hitting North Bay store

Two men are facing charges in a grocery store scheme involving packaged meat. CTV’s Krista Simpson reports.

Two fraud suspects from Toronto were recognized at a North Bay store after allegedly using gift cards loaded with fraudulent funds, police say.

Officers were called to an Algonquin Avenue business around 12:15 p.m. April 8 after two men used gift cards to buy some cartons of cigarettes.

“The alert staff members at the business recognized the two males as fraudsters that a Be-On-the-Look-Out (BOLO) had been issued for, in regards to similar activity in the Toronto area,” North Bay Police Service said in a news release Wednesday.

“When the males realized they had been recognized, they left the store immediately.”

The suspects left the store in a Black Dodge Durango bearing the license plate number DECH 806, police said.

Photos of the two men were captured on surveillance video and distributed by North Bay police.

“Anyone who is able to identify either of the two suspects in this incident or has seen the vehicle involved is asked to call the North Bay Police Service at 705-497-5555 and press 5 to speak to an officer,” police said.

The value of the purchases made at the North Bay store totaled $347.13, police spokesperson Merv Shantz told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email.
